Our trip to Cars in the Park, Pietermaritzburg.
The day arrived and we all met at the Vryheid Wimpy, the normal meeting place, at 08h00. Sadly though, only three vehicles participated, namely Harry in his Model A Ford, Arthur in his Lincoln Continental and Des in his Mercedes Pontoon. However, prior to Saturday, Dirk and Andre had departed already with prior commitments in Toyota and Rolls vehicles. Unfortnately Terry's Austen A40 was damaged by fire the day before departure.
We were on our way in convoy, approaching Scheepersnek, when the Ford stopped with an electrical problem but was quickly sorted out. We traveled well to Ladysmith where we refuelled. At this stage Terry and Pam caught up in their modern Benz.
We departed from Ladysmith via Colenzo to the N3, travelling well. Just before the Shell Ultra City, the Ford stopped. This time it proved to be a major problem with the water pump housing having broken, damaging the fan and radiator. Harry, as always prepared, had a tow-bar in the car. After coupling to Terry's Benz, we were on our way again. I don't think the Ford has ever travelled that well - let alone speeding up to 80-90ks/hr! At times it looked as though the Model A was trying to pass the Benz!
Lunch was planned at "The Junction", Nottingham Road, and a glass of Red was the order of the day. After lunch we proceeded to Pietermartizburg where Harry's car was parked off to be towed to the show grounds on Sunday. Great interest was shown for both the Lincoln and Model A Ford. Harry's car was loaded onto a trailer and transported back to Vryheid.
Monday morning dawned and we were on our way back home. Dirk and Des travelled in convoy and Arthur went via the N2 back to Pongola.
Again, I believe this is one event not to be missed.

Test Run Outing - 10 May 2014
An enjoyable outing to the Biltong Shop - Lenjane
Harry and Terry's newly restored Model A Ford and Austen A40 respectively took part in a short test run to Lenjane, a trip of 60km. This was in preparation for a trip to Cars in the Park in Pietermaritzburg. Des and Colin accompanied the two in a 58 Willy's Jeep as a sweeper, just in case.
We departed on a beautiful Saturday morning from the Wimpy in Vryheid. We stopped on the way to Lenjane, just to check that all was ok. Arrived at Lenjane, also known as the Biltong Shop, and then decided to have breakfast. We were pleasantly surprised and it was most enjoyable.
After a break of an hour we returned back home, trouble free and ready for the trip to Cars in the Park Pietermaritzburg the following weekend being 18 May 2014.

The VVCC Car Show - 15 June 2013
A very enjoyable day.
All-in-all the day was perfect with perfect weather and excellent attendance. This made it possible for the VVCC to make donations of R22,000.00 to local charities. Thank you Ty and Bert for your encouraging words and compliments, we will certainly try to keep the standards high.
Clubs were well represented with the Mercedes Benz -,Volvo -, Alfa Romeo -, Ou Toeter-, Durban Early Cars -, Vryheid Old Wheels - and Natal Midlands Clubs attending. The stalwarts of the show are however the Volvo Owners Club who have dubbed their exodus to the VVCC the "Walk to Vryheid", having completed their 6th year this year with 26 cars on display. All club support is critical in these charity events and all Vintage or Classic and Sports car clubs are invited to join the show and become and institution like the Volvo guys.
To the Vintage and Classic Car fraternity out there, you don't know what you've been missing! If you are a Vintage Car enthusiast, this is the one show that must be on your calendar for next year. Keep an eye out for the Vryheid Vintage Car Club's annual Car Show on 14 June 2014. Biltongfees - 1 June 2013
Biltongfees held at Battlefields
The day was very well attended, even though the wind was not very pleasant. Members exhibiting were: Harvie, Dirk, Dirkie, and Stoffel. Leon and Cornell were also there.
Both Harvie and Dirkie had breakdowns and the current holders of the Noddy Badge (Cassie and Terry) are urged to bring these to the next meeting for official handing over.
This event is to be punted in future and one of our big marketing possibilities for our show. This will thus become one of our definite club outings.

Outing - 19 May Cars-in-the-park Pietermaritizburg.
Pietermarizburg Cars-in-the-park
Des, Harry, Andre, Dirk, Cassie, Arthur and Dieter attended with their cars. Cornell, Leon and Tienie also attended but not to exhibit. The trip down was uneventful and we experienced no breakdowns. We all enjoyed a braai at Aintree Lodge on Saturday night with excellent salads etc. Desert was a plate of unbelievable koeksisters!
The show itself was very well attended and at one stage the announcers said that the gates were closed as they had reached their maximum capacity. We were of the opinion that this was the largest number of vehicles in attendance as well.
Oom Arthur almost had to walk home as he managed to sell his Studebaker at the show! No, don't ask, but it was a lot!
