VVCC Participation in SAVVA Vintage and Veteran Tour Bethlehem - 21 - 24 September 2019

The VVCC proudly had 8 participants in the above-mentioned tour, namely H. Heyns, K. Botha, P. Mouton, K. Lombaard, A.Duvenage, C. Lourens, D. Lemmon-Warde and P. de Wet. The group departed on the morning of the 20th September with cars loaded on to trailers, with the destination being Lavender Hill Hotel, just outside Bethlehem. The trip there was trouble free. Saturday morning, after a hearty breakfast, the entire group assembled for a group photograph, thereafter, the group departed to the Maluti Motor Show Grounds. This show is an annual event and our cars were displayed with positive reception from the public. We then departed around 13h30 for our trip to Clarens, with the overall round trip being 68,4km. Again, the trip was trouble free. Saturday also included a meet-up with the participants from various clubs countrywide. The tour had a total of 22 participants, with vehicles ranging from 1911 models to 1930. |

| Sunday's tour included visits to Clarens, Golden Gate and Kestel, with a round trip of 233km. Various mechanical problems were experienced on route. The highlight of the day was an excellent lunch stop at Kiara Lodge. A challenging point of this leg of the tour included negotiating a steep incline and decent in the Golden Gate area. Monday's tour was only 186km for the day. Windy and hot conditions were experienced during the day. We had a stop-over at Lindley Hotel for lunch, followed by a visit to the local museum and mill. This visit proved very inciteful and enjoyable. However, certain cars were plagued by mechanical problems. |

| Tuesday's journey was from Bethlehem to Sandstone Estates with a stop-over at IONIA Cherry Farm Stall. The farm offered a tasting of the various cherry liquers. However, the highlight of the trip was the visit to the Sandstone Estate, which housed a vast collection of steam driven tractors, trains, coaches, military vehicles and agricultural tractors. Again, we were treated to a very hearty lunch. Following that we returned to Lavender Hill. |

| Our hosts, The Model T Ford Club, hosted a gala evening on the Tuesday evening where a lucky draw took place and prizes were handed out for various categories. The evening was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in attendance. The Model T Ford Club must be complimented for their well-organised tour of 2019. The facilities of Lavender Hill Country Estate also deserve praise. Their accommodation and catering were of a very high standard and can be highly recommended by our club. Annual Outing to Talana - 20 October 2018
A lovely day at Talana.
The Talana Live is an annual event which the VVCC participates in and this year the event was held at Talana Museum, Dundee. Club members congregated at the Wimpy Junction, Vryheid on a very wet and cold morning. No less than 14 cars departed en-route to the event. :It rained all the way until the arrival in Dundee. The morning was enjoyed with visits to the museum and various food stalls as well as interaction with members from other vintage car clubs.
During the day the weather improved and we were treated to a display of large Scottish bands of which members were from various towns. In the afternoon we were entertained by a re-enactment of THE BATTLE OF TALANA between the British and the Boers. True to tradition, the members of the VVCC were treated to a hearty braai organized by Leon and Neels before our departure back home.
The day's outing went very well with no mechanical problems.
Our thanks to the members for braving the bad weather to support the Talana Live day. Well done!!!

The Annual Chicken Run - 15 September 2018
Our Chicken Run
The weather started off badly but eventually turned into a nice day.
Kowie Lombard, the sponsor from Valley View Chickens, came all the way from Mtunzini for the day. We had a total of 17 cars enter for the short fun run that had been organized.
Some of our members came from as far as Piet Retief and Pongola. The entrants were grouped in teams of four and five, and no two cars from the same group ran together.
This made for a very interesting run, and the Kowie Lombard Floating Trophy, which was donated by Kowie some years ago, was eventually won by team four - Kobus, Cornell, Arthur and Harry. After a prize-giving we all enjoyed a lovely chicken braai.
The salads and puddings ended a perfect day. Thanks to the organizers. We look forward to another great day next year.
