Annual Outing to Hoeka Toeka Car Show Piet Retief - 30 July 2016

This year's outing was well supported by our club with 18 members and family, 17 vintage and classic cars and 3 magnificently restored stationary engines by Johan Horn and Pieter Colloty.   The day started early on a crisp Saturday morning where our members arrived at the Wimpy Junction for the start of our journey to Piet Retief.   A change in the Noddy Badge occurred with Andre's Jaguar developing a fuel problem.   The problem was soon resolved thanks to the efforts of our fellow members with a huge push enough to get the Jaguar running again.   This made for an amusing scene.   Our first stop was at Paulpietersburg to check if all was well with the oldies, after which we were on our way again.   Just outside Paulpietersburg Johan's Mercedes motor gave up the ghost, only to be towed back to Paulpietersburg for storage.   Our thanks to Cassie Lourens for towing and accommodating two extra members in his Volvo P1800.   Finally we arrived at Piet Retief and shared in a perfect winter's day.   The show was fielded at the Piet Retief rugby grounds and one must say it lends itself well for this type of event.

Unbeknown to the public at the showgrounds, we were pleasantly surprised by the introduction of guest artists Eddie Eksteen and Billy Forest, well-known in the entertainment world of South Africa, who entertained us with music from the 60's and 70's and various comedic stories.

This year members spent Friday and Saturday evening at the newly established guest B&B of Kobus and Riekie followed by an excellent braai and fellowship.   Sunday morning we were invited to Kobus and Riekie's home for a hearty breakfast and final farewell.   Our thanks to Kobus and his team for a wonderful weekend.   Well done!

Once again credit must be given to the Hoeka Toeka Car Club for their huge efforts in hosting this event and one must acknowledge the stalwarts of the club, namely Kobus Botha, Paul Mouton and Japie Van Vuuren and their display of many private vintage and classic cars as can be seen by the accompanying photos.   The support for prizes was outstanding with many of our members being awarded with the appropriate items for their respective vehicles.

The show was well supported by the public of Piet Retief and surrounding districts.   Many motor dealers were on display with their product range, accompanied by a display of restored tractors by Jan Randall as well as numerous food stalls offering a wide range of tasty dishes and refreshments.

Thanks to Harvie and Collin for the photos.
