UITSTAPPIE SONDAG 17 FEB. 2008

Year end Rally and Social.

On Saturday 24 November 2007 the club held its annual year end rally and social. Only 14 cars braved the bad weather as the heavens opened up just before the rally was due to start. The route which was planned by last year's winner, Cassie Lourens, together with Gordon Lemmon-Warde, was about 60km long. One of the tasks was too stop at a certain point on the route and pick up a green pebble for the vintage cars, and a red pebble for the classics. Fortunately the whole route was on tar road, but some of the cars experienced wiper problems in the rain. Luckily everybody got back safely. Each navigator had to then hand in their time-schedules to the officials. While everybody left for home to prepare for the social, the officials then calculated who the winners were.

That night, after a delicious dinner, the results were announced. Congratulations to the following members:

Winner of the Vintage section in his 1932 Dodge was Harry Heyns.

Winner of the Classic section in his 1964 Jaguar was Hendrik Delport.

The annual prize-giving then followed with the winners of the various categories being announced:

The trophy for best restored vehicle for 2007 went to Glen Rae with his 1930 Model A Ford.

The Lood Krause trophy for best attendance during 2007 was won by Allan Holmes.

Special awards were given to four of our members who turned 75 during 2007. They being Fred Laas, John Darlow, Dirk de Beer and Teddy Hermann. Congratulations!

Special acknowledgement was given to two of our founder members, 2007 being our 10th anniversary. They being Leon Oelofse and Harry Heyns.

Gordon Lemmon-Warde welcomed Andre Cronje as the new incoming Chairman.

After all the formalities were completed, everyone continued to enjoy themselves well into the evening.
