The VVCC Car Show - 15 June 2013

A very enjoyable day.
All-in-all the day was perfect with perfect weather and excellent attendance.   This made it possible for the VVCC to make donations of R22,000.00 to local charities.   Thank you Ty and Bert for your encouraging words and compliments, we will certainly try to keep the standards high.
Clubs were well represented with the Mercedes Benz -,Volvo -, Alfa Romeo -, Ou Toeter-, Durban Early Cars -, Vryheid Old Wheels - and Natal Midlands Clubs attending.   The stalwarts of the show are however the Volvo Owners Club who have dubbed their exodus to the VVCC the "Walk to Vryheid", having completed their 6th year this year with 26 cars on display.  All club support is critical in these charity events and all Vintage or Classic and Sports car clubs are invited to join the show and become and institution like the Volvo guys.
To the Vintage and Classic Car fraternity out there, you don't know what you've been missing!   If you are a Vintage Car enthusiast, this is the one show that must be on your calendar for next year.   Keep an eye out for the Vryheid Vintage Car Club's annual Car Show on 14 June 2014.   For any additional information regarding next year's show, contact our Chairman - Mr Kobus Botha at 082 807 0747 or Secretary - Mr Dieter Oltmann at 082 496 3518.
Some facts and figures:
Visitors - 2,500+
Vehicles on display - Close on 300 (including new vehicles)
Pre-world war 2 vehicles (ie Pre 1940) - 47.  (44 of which are owned by VVCC members)
5 Model T's - of which only Ty Terblanche's is not owned by a club member.
Thank you to:
All visitors.
The Suid-oos NG Church for providing the food for the day.   The fact that you sold everything, bar a few burgers, shows that the Joint Venture was a huge success.
John Kitching - Although you are a Blue Bulls supporter, we forgive you and thank you for your running commentary and announcements for the duration of the show.
Vryheid Dealers - Inynanga Motors, Vryheid Nissan, Auto House, NN Toyota, Mascor VW and Mascor John Deere, Ritchie Auto, Kia Vryheid, Farmtrac.
All the clubs that attended.
Stall owners (24) - Too many to mention, but some as far as from Durban and Meyerton.
Hospice - For managing the gate control at the High Street gate.
All sponsors not mentioned by name here, please accept our heartfelt thanks for your continued support.   We will endeavour to thank you each individually.
All the VVCC members who worked hard and supported the committee in getting the whole thing up and running.   If we mention your name, we will leave someone out, so you know who you are.

Biltongfees - 1 June 2013

Biltongfees held at Battlefields
The day was very well attended, even though the wind was not very pleasant.   Members exhibiting were: Harvie, Dirk, Dirkie, and Stoffel.  Leon and Cornell were also there.
Both Harvie and Dirkie had breakdowns and the current holders of the Noddy Badge (Cassie and Terry) are urged to bring these to the next meeting for official handing over.
This event is to be punted in future and one of our big marketing possibilities for our show.   This will thus become one of our definite club outings.

Outing - 19 May Cars-in-the-park Pietermaritizburg.

Pietermarizburg Cars-in-the-park
Des, Harry, Andre, Dirk, Cassie, Arthur and Dieter attended with their cars.   Cornell, Leon and Tienie also attended but not to exhibit.  The trip down was uneventful and we experienced no breakdowns.   We all enjoyed a braai at Aintree Lodge on Saturday night with excellent salads etc.   Desert was a plate of unbelievable koeksisters!
The show itself was very well attended and at one stage the announcers said that the gates were closed as they had reached their maximum capacity.   We were of the opinion that this was the largest number of vehicles in attendance as well.
Oom Arthur almost had to walk home as he managed to sell his Studebaker at the show!   No, don't ask, but it was a lot!

Annual Rally - 24 November 2012

VVCC Rally and Year End Function:
The annual rally and Year End Function took place on 24 November at the Vryheid Golf  Club.
The Rally started opposite the Golf Club entrance and was attended by 13 cars.  The route was slightly different from previous years and stopped at various locations not previously used.   Comments were that maybe the rally was slightly long at 1,5 hours, but it was good fun.  Winners were - Andre Nel - classic cars and Harry Heyns - vintage cars.   Losers, and by definition the organisers for next year were Kowie Lombaard and Albie Eicker.
The Dinner was also held at the Golf Club and the general consensus was that the evening was a great success.   The food and company, with the obligatory spirits or wine, all made for a lovely evening and everyone had a blast.

Volvo Club AGM - 20 October 2012

Volvo Club Saamtrek:
The Volvo Club AGM at Adlam Estates. 3 Members attended, Kobus Botha, Jan Meyer and Alfie Ball undertook the trip with no issues or breakdowns.   The event was well organised and attended, and some meaningful lessons can be learned from how this club is managed.   The members attending were full of praise and returned safely to Vryheid.
