13 February 2010 - Outing to Lothair
Jan Randall's Tractor Collection
On Saturday 13 February several members of the VVCC took to the road to Lothair to pay Jan Randall a visit. Jan has got a magnificient collection of old tractors, old cars, motorbikes, stationary engines as well as aeroplanes. Hendrik Delport, Coen Labuschagne, Harvie Van Heerden and his son Haarhoff, Leon Oelofse, Chris and Johan Van Niekerk, Cassie Lourens and his friend, Nick, Dirk de Beer, Fred Laas and Dirkie Kruger all departed from Vryheid and joined up along the road with Arthur Duvenhage and Johan Horn from Pongola and Kobus Botha and Paul Mouton from Piet Retief.
Jan se selnommer is (082 807 5515). Jan besit ongeveer 150 ten volle gerestoureerde trekkers.
All the tractors are in perfect working condition and Jan takes great pride in starting whichever tractor his astonished visitors ask him to. Our favourite was the Bulldog Lanz, for sure! He knows all his tractors' ins and outs and likes to speak about them and also has a listening ear when it comes to hearing other people's comments. Believe it or not, Jan is also a keen collector of old cars! He owns +/- 30 fully restored old cars and LDV's, all of which are also parked in one shed. They consist of Willys jeeps, Munga jeep, DKW's, Mercedes Benz, Chevs, Buick, Cadillacs, Fords and many more. He also owns a collection of old motor cycles, one of which is a very special Harley Davidson with a side car, another one, a BMW, was used by the speedcop of Ermelo during the 1950's.
Jan is a fantastic host, with interesting facts about the tractors and cars in his collection which he loves to share with his visitors. We enjoyed the visit thouroughly and will return one day for another visit, for sure! Jan also promised to attend our car show on 19 June 2010, an, who knows, perhaps he will show his Bulldog Lanz that day!!! ???
