The 2009 Vryheid Vintage Car Club - Car Show

Congratulations to the members! Our car show has grown by leaps and bounds! The first car show attracted about 85 cars five years ago and this has now grown to plus minus 200 vehicles. Various car clubs as well as private exhibitors arrived with their cars, motorbikes, tractors and farm implements as well as their vintage stationary engines. These people came from far and near at their own expense. A great deal of interest was also shown by the presence of the different stall holders and dealerships. It was a pleasing sight to see so much interest shown by so many people. Special mention must be made about the Volvo Club who supported us for the second year in succession, having arrived with 36 classic cars. Thank you to one and all for helping to make the show the great success that it was.


Baie dankie aan ieder en elk wat enige skenkings gemaak het. Daar is so baie mense sowel as besighede wat gegee het sonder om te skroom dat dit feitlik onmoontlik is om almal by name te noem sonder om enige person te na te kom. Baie dankie ook aan al die klublede en hulle vrouens vir al hulle donasies (koeke en poedings ingesluit). Die ondersteuning van die publiek was wonderlik! Baie dankie. Die spitbraaiers het weereens hulself oortref! Van die ses skape en 30 hoenders het net bene oorgebly!

The weather was kind to us and it turned out to be a beautiful day. The atmosphere was tremendous! I would like to make mention of Elize Duvenhage, the wife of one of the members, who drove a 1928 Chevrolet all the way from Pongola to Vryheid. Now that is an achievement! A distance of 140 kilometers! Elize, the ladies are proud of you!


Die skou is deur ieder en elk asook oud en jonk geniet. Dit was ‘n fees vir die oog om soveel ou voertuie saam op een veld te sien staan, en om te dink dat baie van die voertuie aan lede van hierdie klein klub in Vryheid behoort. Die klub bestaan uit 42 lede. Volgende jaar, met die ondersteuning van alle liefhebbers van ‘veteraantye’, hoop ons om hierdie skou nog groter te maak.

In closing I would like to thank the Vryheid High School for the use of their facilities. An ideal venue for a show like this.
